Deaconess Marguerite L. Cooper, age 82, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, January 9, 2026, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. She was the daughter of the late Mamie L. Clark and the late David Lott. She was born in Statesboro, Bulloch County, Georgia, where she attended the local public schools. She was a lifelong and faithful member of Bessenger Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as a deaconess and the church secretary for many years. She was a member of the New Starlight Order of the Eastern Stars Chapter 44, Pulaski, Georgia, having once served as its Worthy Matron. She was a former member of the Eva J. Moore Golden Circle Consistory.
Marguerite was joined in holy matrimony to W.C. Cooper, and together they reared two sons, Mark and Clarence.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded by her brothers, Johnny Lott, Sr., and Eugene Clark.
She leaves to mourn her passing her husband of nearly sixty-eight years, Deacon W. C. Cooper, Claxton, GA; two sons, Javaskie Mark Cooper and David Clarence Cooper both of Claxton, GA; two grandchildren, Traynon Cooper and Timariee Cooper, both of Statesboro, GA; a brother Richard Clark, Statesboro, GaA and a sister-in-law, Grace Cooper, Jersey City, NJ and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Cooper will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Register, Georgia 30452, with the Reverend Paul Benton, eulogist, and Reverend Sarah S. Prince, presiding. Interment will be in Charleston United Methodist Church Cemetery, Sylvania, GA.
Mrs. Cooper will lie in state at New Hope from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour. There will be no other viewing.
