Carolyn Baker Lee

Carolyn Baker Lee, a cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully at her residence on December 16, 2025. She was born on May 15, 1943, in Register, Bulloch County, Georgia, to Luretha Baker and Idus "Tump" Hobbs. Carolyn faced the hardship of losing her mother at a young age, but she found strength and love in the arms of her grandmother, the late Lona Mae Menefield, who lovingly raised her and her sister.

Carolyn's educational journey took her through the public schools of Bulloch County, where she developed a strong foundation that carried her through life. She made a significant impact in her community as a dedicated cook for the Bulloch County School System, where she shared her love for nourishment and care with countless children and families.

A devoted member of New Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, Carolyn found joy and solace in her faith, which guided and shaped her life. Her warmth and kindness were felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She leaves behind a loving family that includes three sons: Herman (Sharmane) Lee Jr. and Elgin (Christina) Lee, both of Statesboro, and Keven Lee of Register. Carolyn also cherished her five daughters: Carol (Willie) Bynes, Sonja (Clinton) Mikell, Sharon (Anthony) Hunter, and India (Johnatan) McKinney, all of Register, and Jeanine (Anthony) Dennis of Atlanta, GA. Her legacy continues through her seven grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry her memory forward in their hearts.

In addition to her remarkable children and grandchildren, Carolyn was supported by her special aunt, Ida Wigfall of South Bend, ID, and her step-brother, Willie Smith of Detroit, MI. She held dear the bonds with her special cousins who were more like sisters, Robbie Faye Moore of Baltimore, MD, and Shirley (Willie) Brathwaite of Burlington, NC, one sister-in-law, Vernell Roberson, Bronx, NY  along with a host of additional cousins and friends, who added joy and richness to her life.

Carolyn is preceded in death by, her parents and grandmother, her beloved husband, Herman Lee Sr., her sister Earlene Sharpe-Johnson, and her longtime companion L.W. Hendley. Their memories remain a cherished part of her life story.

Carolyn Baker Lee will be remembered for her loving spirit, her unwavering dedication to family, and the positive impact she made in her community.
